K12 Athletics Foundation

Empowering Youth Through Sports

K12 Athletics Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) public charity operating in the Northern Virginia area. It was founded in 2018 by Firefighter Ken Savittiere who was a former WVU soccer player, high school athletics coach and Physical/Health Education teacher. Ken remains passionate about helping all children recognize and benefit from the value of organized sports and Physical Education.

Why Sports and Physical Education?

We want to help stem the growth of childhood obesity, which is becoming an epidemic. Secondly, athletics are where children learn about teamwork, goal setting, and dedication to achieve excellence. Physical Education can teach children to develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities to be physically active for a lifetime.

Prevalence of obesity for children ages  6-11 has quadrupled since the 1970s to 20% .

Schools with shrinking budgets are dropping physical education or requiring kids to pay for their school teams. Seventy percent of kids leave sports entirely by age 13.
